Overview

The Heart Guide is an interface designed to help patients who have experienced a myocardial infarction learn about their condition and prepare for the daily rounds with doctors in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.

The guide is based on a need identified in a 2019 study conducted at "Sheba" Hospital by multidisciplinary thinking teams. The research included observations, interviews, and brainstorming sessions with medical staff, patients, caregivers, and designers from various fields.

The goal of the project was to foster a fairer relationship between patients and doctors during medical visits. The idea was that if patients and their families were better informed and prepared, they would have more balanced interactions with doctors, enhancing the patient's sense of control over their condition.

I aimed to achieve this by creating an interactive, accessible guide for patients, allowing them to prepare questions in advance and reducing stress during the visit.

I focused on myocardial infarction because it is common in cardiology departments and the information is broadly relevant. I also have a personal connection through first aid training I provided during military service.

For the project, I conducted a brief study at Soroka Hospital's Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, exploring how patients receive information. I reviewed the presentation materials used by nurses, identified challenges like knowledge gaps and language barriers, and interviewed nurses and family members of heart attack patients to better understand their needs and experiences.
